Copper Granule Production

Mountstar produces high quality copper and plastic granules, which are sold worldwide. Our advanced technology results in the recovery of Copper from virtually any type of Copper cable.

Bags

The process couldn’t be simpler; on delivery the cables are weighed and sampled for quality. The material is graded prior to processing to ensure each type of cable is handled in the most efficient manner. This also reduces the risk of contamination in our finished products.

The cables are then shredded or stripped. Cable stripping is used to remove lead from lead covered copper cable. Shredding is used to reduce the size and remove steel from steel armoured cable. The cores from cable stripping and the shredded products are then granulated. The granulation process removes steel and plastic. The resulting copper products vary in specification from 98% through to 99.9% copper content and include:

• Bright Copper Granules – ISRI Grade Clove
• Mixed Copper Granules – ISRI Grade Cobra

The copper content and type of granule varies dependent on the cable processed.

Granules

The plastic residue is processed further to extract any copper leftover from granulation. This results in:

• Mixed Copper granules at 90-94% copper content
• PVC and PE plastic granules at 0.05% max copper content.

Quality control is a fundamental part of the process, and every order that leaves the plant is sampled to ensure Mountstar’s customers are receiving the highest quality copper granules for their money.

With an excellent reputation and copper granules produced as pure as 99.9% copper, it is a merit to Mountstar for achieving the ISO 9001:2000 accreditation for quality management, and ISO 14001:2004 accreditation for environmental management.
